Awarded to a non-traditional student who is a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. Recipient may be enrolled full time or part time. A minimum 2.5 GPA in all previous educational programs is required. Award will be made with regard to financial need. Consideration shall be given to an applicant's participation in community service and volunteer work as listed and described in the scholarship application form.

A scholarship recipient may be considered for renewal but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.





Adeline E. Moore Non-Traditional Book Scholarship

Book scholarship awards will be made to non-traditional students properly enrolled on the Missouri-State West Plains campus. Awards will be made based on financial need and the ability to benefit academically. The award is to be used towards book costs.

This scholarship may be renewed as long as the student reapplies for consideration with all other applicants.





Al Hufstedler Leadership Scholarship

Alton, Couch, Leadership

One award to a student graduating from Alton High School and one award to a student graduating from Couch High School.

Renewal: Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.





Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Alton)

Awarded to a full-time student who is a graduate of Alton High School. Recipient must have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively. Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply and be considered with all other applicants.





Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Oregon County)

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. First preference will be given to a graduate of Couch High School; if a Couch graduate is not eligible, secondary consideration will be given to a veteran who is a graduate of a public high school in Oregon County. Recipient should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively. Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.





Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Veteran)

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester who is a U.S. military veteran. Recipient should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively. Allison London Smith Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled in a major that represents the humanities (English, history, anthropology, art, foreign language, music, religion, theater); a resident of the seven-county area (Howell, Wright, Texas, Douglas, Ozark, Oregon, and Shannon) served by Missouri State University-West Plains; not eligible for other types of financial aid; and be enrolled in at least six credit hours each semester. Awards will be made with regard for financial need. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities.

The scholarship may be renewed automatically as long as funds allow and the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.





Angela Dawn Conway Endowed Music Scholarship

Recipient must be a full-time entering freshman from Willow Springs High School who is pursuing a major or minor in the field of music, with preference being given to a music major. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities evidenced by involvement in multiple extra-curricular and community activities. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Arkansas Tuition Scholarship

1. Legal resident of the state of Arkansas and  2. Eligible for admission as a degree-seeking student. 

Equal to the out-of-state portion of required student fees, not to exceed a course load of 16 credit hours per semester in the fall and spring and 9 credit hours in the summer. 

Application: Be admitted to Missouri State University-West Plains as a degree seeking student.

 





Bessie Yadon Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior level student who is enrolled either part-time or full-time. Preference will be given to a student whose discipline is in business or education and who has a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Priority will first be given to applicants of the seven-county service area (Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas or Shannon). Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Preference shall be given to students who have a demonstrated interest in and commitment to promoting an educational environment that is diverse and inclusive of individuals irrespective of their sex, race/ethnicity, age, religion, veteran status, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity. Serious consideration will be given to all ways in which potential recipients might contribute to a diverse educational environment.

Bill Burris Endowed Scholarship

Recipients must be enrolled full-time. They must be residents and high school graduates of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County, who are pursuing degrees in human services and the helping professions (sociology, psychology, education, or health). Recipients should demonstrate college potential through high school performance and show leadership qualities and civic involvement. Further consideration will be given to financial need. Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from the high school guidance counselor and a second from an active and involved adult member of the community.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal but must reapply and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.





Board of Governors Scholarship

Entering Freshmen must rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.90 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 28. 
 
Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.50 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.) See "Transfer Scholarships to Missouri State University-Springfield."





Bob Lawrence Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman who is majoring in agriculture and is a graduate of West Plains High School or a public high school within a 50-mile radius of West Plains. Student should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants. These students will be exempt from the incoming freshman requirement.





Carol Bell Silvey Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled full-time in an associate degree program who intends to major in history and preferably pursue a teaching career at the secondary level. Preference to be given to a member of the most recent graduating class from Dora High School, Ava High School or West Plains High School, respectively. Applicant must have a 3.5 or higher GPA in all previous educational programs. Award will be made without regard to financial need. The application must be accompanied by the letter of reference from an individual who is actively involved in the community.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants. Renewals will not have to meet the incoming freshman requirement. Students who have already completed an associate degree program are not eligible for renewal.

Entering freshmen must rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.70 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 26. This scholarship is not available to recipients of the Board of Governors Scholarship.

Charles H. and Rena Wood Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains and preferably a resident of Howell County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 college credit hours or more, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.5 and they must be majoring in one of the following fields: English, history, political science or accounting. Awards will be made with regard for financial need.

Chuck and Sue Kimberlin Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident and high school graduate of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County, who is enrolled full-time and intends to pursue a degree in human services and the helping professions (sociology, psychology, education or health). Applicant should demonstrate college potential through high school performance and show leadership qualities and civic involvement. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from the student's high school guidance counselor and a second from an active and involved adult member of the community. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Applicants receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

  • Second preference to an individual who intends to pursue a degree in human services and the helping professions (i.e. sociology, psychology, education and health). Must be a resident and high school graduate of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. 
The scholarship may be renewed, but students must reapply and be considered with all other applicants.





Clyde and Joyce Bell Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student whose area of emphasis is elementary education. Priority will first be given to applicants from Douglas County, and then Ozark County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5. Awards are made without regard for financial need.

Crissy Bell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains with first priority consideration to a resident of Wright County. If no eligible applicants, consideration will then be given to applicants from Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon or Texas County. Student should have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher during their high school career and have demonstrated involvement in community service documented with two letters of reference. Award will be made without regard for financial need. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship.

Darr Incentive Endowed Scholarship



Students are selected for this scholarship based on academic potential from outside Missouri State University - West Plains traditional seven country service area (Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas, Shannon, Oregon. and Howell). From selected schools the superintendent/principal/counselor will award the scholarship. Selection can be made in the spring of each year if funds are available for awarding to begin the following fall.

Scholarship is non-renewable.





Darr Scholar Award

William and Virginia Darr Honors Program, honors program, community service, volunteer, incoming freshman, freshman

Awarded to a full-time recipient who has been accepted into the William and Virginia Darr Honors Program at Missouri State University-West Plains. First priority will be given to new applicants in the Darr Honors Program. When awarded to an incoming freshman, the applicant must have a minimum score of 30 on the ACT. A two-page essay detailing involvement in community service activities and or unique honors awarded. The essay should be reflective and analytical of experiences that have been a part of life experiences. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 credit hours or more, the student must have an overall GPA of at least 3.5 during the preceding year at Missouri State University-West Plains. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

The scholarship may be renewed if funds allow; however, first priority will be given to new applicants in the Darr Honors Program.





Dean's Scholarship

Entering Freshmen must rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.70 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 24.  This scholarship is not available to recipients of the Board of Governors Scholarship or the Chancellor's Scholarship.

Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.30 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.) See"Transfer Scholarships to Missouri State University-Springfield."





Dixie Huff Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student who graduated from West Plains High School or Couch High School. Applicants receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Awards will be made with regard to financial need. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship.

Don and Judy Kenslow Endowed Scholarship

Student must be full-time majoring in business, economics or elementary education and must show good citizenship by past participation in academics and extra-curricular activities. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Returning students must have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5. Priority consideration will be given to applicants from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright). Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Donald E. and Carol D. (Roe) Reser & Family Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident of Howell County and a graduate of West Plains High School. Award made to a junior or senior level student pursuing a B.S. in elementary education. Recipient must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Priority consideration is: 1) financial need; 2) academic performance; 3) leadership qualities. Must be full-time. Exceptions may be made when the scholarship committee feels a part-time student is more deserving.

The scholarship recipient(s) may be considered for renewal but must reapply for an additional year so long as funds allow and the student maintains a 3.25 GPA and continues to have financial need.





Donald Flinner Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded annually to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains whose area of emphasis or interest relates to agriculture, forestry, or natural resource conservation with preference given to a student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in General Agriculture. The applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon or Wright) with first preference given to a Howell County resident. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student with preference given to a full-time student enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester.





Donna S. and Michael D. Hayes Scholarship

The Recipients of this award will be undergraduate degree or certificate seeking students properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State University or Missouri State University-West Plains. Recipients must have graduated from Richards R-V School District in West Plains, Missouri.
  • Graduates of the most recent high school year seeking an undergraduate degree must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
  • Graduates of the most recent high school year seeking a certificate must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0.
  • Recipients not directly out of high school (non-traditional students) must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. However, no minimum high school GPA is required.
Consideration will be given to work experience, letters of recommendation and personal statements.

The scholarship may be automatically renewed as long as funds allow for a total of 3 years as long as funds allow and the recipient maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for degree seeking students or 2.0 for certificate seeking students.





Doug Darr Community Leadership Restricted Current Scholarship

Recipient should be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). They must also be enrolled full-time and should demonstrate community involvement and cite successful leadership experiences. Preference will be given to a student majoring in one of the following disciplines: political science, education (elementary or secondary), business or communications.

Dr. Bruce Mitchell Smith Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be from the seven-county service area (Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas or Shannon County). First consideration will be given to a student majoring in a field of science; secondary consideration will be given to a student majoring in the field of mathematics. Award will be made to a student who does not qualify for other types of financial aid. Recipient must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and be enrolled full-time.

Dr. Vera Carhart Scholarship Fund

Healthcare, nursing, health, nontraditional, oregon county

The recipients of this award will be full-time undergraduate students at Missouri State-West Plains meeting satisfactory academic progress, with demonstrated financial need, who are nontraditional students. Recipients must be from Oregon County, Missouri and majoring in a healthcare program.

A scholarship recipient may be considered for renewal but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.





Earl S. and Ruth N. Webb Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be pursuing a degree in the Missouri State University-West Plains accounting program and be a resident of Howell or a contiguous county. Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of college course work with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be automatically renewed as long as funds allow and the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and the recipient reapplies.





Ed and Lorene Thompson Brooks Corps of Opportunity (CO) Awards



Corps of Opportunity (CO) students must be of excellent character, demonstrate a strong work ethic and show scholastic potential. Residence at the campus in the Grizzly House and/or Grizzly Lofts, though not absolutely required, is preferred. Recipients will be strongly encouraged to begin their CO jobs during the first summer session. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 is required. Entering freshmen must have achieved this minimum GPA in their senior year of high school. Home-schooled students must have either earned their GED/HiSET diploma or have an ACT composite score of at least 18. Currently enrolled college students must have achieved the minimum 2.50 GPA in all college courses. Any first-time student who has earned a GED/HiSET diploma is eligible. First-year students will be given preference over sophomores who are not already a CO recipient. CO students will undergo a standard evaluation by the departmental work supervisor. Less than satisfactory performance may result in probation or dismissal.

 





Emory Melton Endowed Scholarship

When awarded to a student enrolled with 30 credit hours or more earned, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.  Preference to a student majoring in history. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Eual 'Bud' James Academic Restricted Current Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon or Wright County) with preference being given to a graduate of an Oregon County high school. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Academics will be the primary consideration for this scholarship. Two letters of recommendation which speak to the student's involvement in community activities is required. Full-time student preferred.

Everett and Opal Parrott Endowed Scholarship

Frances Reiter Memorial Nursing Endowed Scholarship



The recipient of this scholarship will be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains, who is a second-year nursing student. The recipient should have a 3.0 or higher GPA to receive the scholarship. Preference to a student with University and/or community involvement or working. First consideration will be based on financial need.

The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year. The applicant may be renewed, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.





Frankie and S.D. Sims Memorial Scholarship

Must be enrolled full-time in Missouri State Univ.-West Plains Nursing Program seeking an A.S. Nursing Degree. Must have had a 3.0 GPA or higher in their LPN education. Preference will be given to graduates of the Southern Missouri Technical Institute (formerly South Central Career Center) LPN School. Preference will also be given to those who can demonstrate involvement in community service documented with two letters of reference. Do not consider financial need.

Gammill Family Foundation Scholarship for Nursing School

Recipient must be enrolled in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Award is based on financial need and academic credentials of the applicants. Preference to applicants who require some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Applicant must be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright Counties) and must submit two letters of reference from an educator or a member of the community. Recipients must be a graduate of West Plains High School or Koshkonong High School and present letters of reference from two Glenwood School faculty members. When awarded to an incoming freshman, applicant must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. When awarded to a second-year college student, the recipient must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in high school and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in the preceding college credits. Consideration will be given to community involvement and demonstrated performance in extra-curricular and community activities. The recipient must be enrolled full-time. The application must be accompanied by an essay in response to the following: "What are your career and educational goals and how would this scholarship benefit you?"

Special consideration will be given to applicants who have exhibited civic involvement and/or participated in events for individuals with special needs. Applicants from the Howell County area will be given first consideration, then applicants from Oregon, Shannon, Texas, Ozark, Wright or Douglas County. Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in their college program and be enrolled full-time. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Graham and Connie O'Neal Endowed Scholarship

Recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains whose area of emphasis or interest is English. The recipient must be enrolled full-time each semester. Consideration will be given to high school performance and college potential. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 hours or more, the student must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater.

Granvil and Idell Vaughan Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is a Howell County resident. Recipient must have completed 15 credit hours of college course work prior to receiving this scholarship and must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student who plans to pursue a degree in agriculture or education. Recipient may be enrolled full or part time. Financial need may be considered if more than one applicant meets all of the eligibility requirements.

Harlin Family Business Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in the field of business who is a graduate of an Ozark County high school. If awarded to an incoming freshman, recipient must be in the upper third of his or her high school graduating class. If awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in their field of study.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.

When awarded to a returning student, student must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Recipient must be enrolled full-time each semester. Exceptions may be made when committee feels a part-time student is more deserving. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

The students will hold the scholarship for one academic year. This scholarship is not renewable.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a student(s) enrolled at Missouri State University-Mountain Grove. When awarded to a freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or be in the upper third of their high school graduating class. Preference will be given to applicants from the 144th Legislative District, preferably from Wright, Douglas or Ozark County. Recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours each semester, with a minimum of six hours at the Mountain Grove campus. Awards will be made with regard to financial need if GPA is the same.

This scholarship may be renewed for a second year, however the student must reapply for consideration with all other applicants and submit two letters of recommendation from the faculty on the Mountain Grove Campus.





Math Educators of South Central Missouri Restricted Scholarship

First preference will be given to a mathematics major, second preference to a mathematics minor and third preference to an education major. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six hours during the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

The Recipient of this award will be an undergraduate student properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains in the Terry L. “Bo” Pace Advanced Fabrication and Welding Technology Program seeking a certificate or an AAS in Technology. The recipient must place in the annual MSU-WP Welding Competition. Recipients must be high school juniors or seniors. Scholarship funds must be used in the academic year immediately following high school graduation. In the event the recipient of this scholarship chooses to enroll in a technology program other than the Terry L. “Bo” Pace Advanced Fabrication and Welding Technology Program, the office of Workforce Development will determine eligibility.

The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year. The scholarship may not be renewed.





Mountain Grove 2006 Missouri State Alumni Endowed Scholarship

The recipients of this award will be undergraduate students properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State-West Plains meeting satisfactory academic progress. First preference shall go to West Plains High School graduates, second preference to graduates of Ozark Christian Academy, third preference to a Howell County high school graduate. Areas of study preferences shall be in this order 1. Business, 2. Education, 3. Healthcare. Recipients should demonstrate examples of leadership in extracurricular activities. Financial need is preferred.

First preference is given to a student majoring in welding. Second preference to a student majoring in industrial maintenance. Third preference to a student in any other program within the technology division. Preference shall be given to a graduate of Oregon-Howell R-III, West Plains R-VII and graduates from any other school in the seven-county service area, in that order. Financial need is preferred. 

The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year. The scholarship is not renewable.





The McIntosh Trades Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be an undergraduate student receiving a degree in the trades industry. It is the donor’s preference that the student: 1. Have financial need, 2. Be a first-generation higher education attendee, 3. Have a GPA of less than 3.0. 

The student can continue to hold the scholarship so long as funds allow and the students maintain satisfactory academic progress while also continuing to meet the main criteria and the first preference. The student may hold the scholarship for up to 4 academic years.





Veronica Mays Memorial Scholarship



The Recipient of this award will be an undergraduate student properly enrolled at Missouri State-West Plains. Recipients must be a first-generation, non-traditional student. Students can be part-time or full-time. Recipients must meet satisfactory academic progress and have a cumulative GPA of no less than 2.0.

Missouri State Springfield Outreach program students are eligible for consideration. Recipient must have completed at least 30 college credit hours, including three hours of religious studies coursework, with a GPA of at least 3.5. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Priority will be given to a student majoring in the field of business who is enrolled full-time in a Springfield program on the West Plains campus; however, if there is no qualified candidate, the award can be made to a student majoring in any academic area offered by Missouri State University-Springfield on the West Plains campus.
