1963 Heritage Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a non-traditional student who is a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. Recipient may be enrolled full time or part time. A minimum 2.5 GPA in all previous educational programs is required. Award will be made with regard to financial need. Consideration shall be given to an applicant's participation in community service and volunteer work as listed and described in the scholarship application form.

A scholarship recipient may be considered for renewal but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Adeline E. Moore Non-Traditional Book Scholarship

Awards will be made to non-traditional students. Awards will be made based on financial need and the ability to benefit academically.

This scholarship may be renewed as long as the student reapplies for consideration with all other applicants.


Al Hufstedler Leadership Scholarship

One award to a student graduating from Alton High School and one award to a student graduating from Couch High School.

Renewal: Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.


Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Alton)

Awarded to a full-time student who is a graduate of Alton High School.  Recipient must have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs.  First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively.  Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Oregon County)

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.  First preference will be given to a graduate of Couch High School; if a Couch graduate is not eligible, secondary consideration will be given to a veteran who is a graduate of a public high school in Oregon County.  Recipient should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs.  First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively.  Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Al Hufstedler Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Veteran)

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester who is a U.S. military veteran.  First preference will be given to a graduate of a public high school in Oregon County; secondary consideration will be given to a graduate of a public high school in the seven-county service area.  Recipient should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs.  First preference will be given to a student whose area of interest is math, science or engineering; if no applicants meet this criteria, consideration will then be given to students pursuing a career in teaching or nursing, respectively.  Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

Allison London Smith Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled in a major that represents the humanities (English, history, anthropology, art, foreign language, music, religion, theater); a resident of the seven-county area (Howell, Wright, Texas, Douglas, Ozark, Oregon, and Shannon) served by Missouri State University-West Plains; not eligible for other types of financial aid; and be enrolled in at least six credit hours each semester. Awards will be made with regard for financial need. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities.

The scholarship may be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.


Angela Dawn Conway Endowed Music Scholarship

Recipient must be a full-time entering freshman from Willow Springs High School who is pursuing a major or minor in the field of music, with preference being given to a music major. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities evidenced by involvement in multiple extra-curricular and community activities. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Arkansas Tuition Scholarship

1. Legal resident of the state of Arkansas and  2. Eligible for admission as a degree-seeking student. 

Equal to the out-of-state portion of required student fees, not to exceed a course load of 16 credit hours per semester in the fall and spring and 9 credit hours in the summer. 

Application: Be admitted to Missouri State University-West Plains as a degree seeking student.

 


Bessie Yadon Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior level student who is enrolled either part-time or full-time. Preference will be given to a student whose discipline is in business or education and who has a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Priority will first be given to applicants of the seven-county service area (Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas or Shannon). Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Bill Burris Endowed Scholarship

Recipients must be enrolled full-time. They must be residents and high school graduates of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County, who are pursuing degrees in human services and the helping professions (sociology, psychology, education, or health). Recipients should demonstrate college potential through high school performance and show leadership qualities and civic involvement. Further consideration will be given to financial need. Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from the high school guidance counselor and a second from an active and involved adult member of the community.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal but must reapply and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.


Board of Governors Scholarship

Entering Freshmen must rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.90 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 28. 
 
Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.50 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.) See"Transfer Scholarships to Missouri State University-Springfield."



Bob Lawrence Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman who is majoring in agriculture and is a graduate of West Plains High School or a public high school within a 50-mile radius of West Plains. Student should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants. These students will be exempt from the incoming freshman requirement.


Carol Bell Silvey Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled full-time in an associate degree program who intends to major in history and preferably pursue a teaching career at the secondary level. Preference to be given to a member of the most recent graduating class from Dora High School, Ava High School or West Plains High School, respectively. Applicant must have a 3.5 or higher GPA in all previous educational programs. Award will be made without regard to financial need. The application must be accompanied by the letter of reference from an individual who is actively involved in the community.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants. Renewals will not have to meet the incoming freshman requirement. Students who have already completed an associate degree program are not eligible for renewal.
 


Cecil Riley and Greg Prevett Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains.  Award will be made with regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.


Chancellor's Scholarship

Entering freshmen must rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.70 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 26. This scholarship is not available to recipients of the Board of Governors Scholarship.

Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.40 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.) See"Transfer Scholarships to Missouri State University-Springfield."


Charles H. and Rena Wood Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains and preferably a resident of Howell County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 college credit hours or more, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.5 and they must be majoring in one of the following fields: English, history, political science or accounting. Awards will be made with regard for financial need.

Chuck and Sue Kimberlin Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident and high school graduate of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County, who is enrolled full-time and intends to pursue a degree in human services and the helping professions (sociology, psychology, education or health). Applicant should demonstrate college potential through high school performance and show leadership qualities and civic involvement. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from the student's high school guidance counselor and a second from an active and involved adult member of the community. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Applicants receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
 


Cindy Moore Restricted Scholarship Fund

Must be properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains. Missouri A+ students are not eligible. 
  • First preference to an individual with a physical disability and are currently receiving, or eligible to receive, Vocational Rehabilitation services and benefits.
  • Second preference to an individual who intends to pursue a degree in human services and the helping professions (i.e. sociology, psychology, education and health). Must be a resident and high school graduate of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. 
The scholarship may be renewed, but students must reapply and be considered with all other applicants.


Clyde and Joyce Bell Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student whose area of emphasis is elementary education. Priority will first be given to applicants from Douglas County, and then Ozark County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5. Awards are made without regard for financial need.

Crissy Bell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains with first priority consideration to a resident of Wright County. If no eligible applicants, consideration will then be given to applicants from Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon or Texas County. Student should have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher during their high school career and have demonstrated involvement in community service documented with two letters of reference. Award will be made without regard for financial need. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship.

Darr Incentive Endowed Scholarship

Students are selected for this scholarship based on academic potential from outside Missouri State University - West Plains traditional seven country service area (Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas, Shannon, Oregon. and Howell). From selected schools the superintendent/principal/counselor will award the scholarship. Selection can be made in the spring of each year if funds are available for awarding to begin the following fall.

Scholarship is non-renewable.


Darr Scholar Award

Awarded to a full-time recipient who has been accepted into the William and Virginia Darr Honors Program at Missouri State University-West Plains. First priority will be given to new applicants in the Darr Honors Program. When awarded to an incoming freshman, the applicant must have a minimum score of 30 on the ACT. A two-page essay detailing involvement in community service activities and or unique honors awarded. The essay should be reflective and analytical of experiences that have been a part of life experiences. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 credit hours or more, the student must have an overall GPA of at least 3.5 during the preceding year at Missouri State University-West Plains. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

The scholarship may be renewed if funds allow; however, first priority will be given to new applicants in the Darr Honors Program.


David and Deborah Grisham Wehrman Leadership Scholarship

Award to one of the most recent graduates from West Plains High School.

Renewal: Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.
 


Deans' Scholarship

Entering Freshmen must rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class or must have earned a 3.70 GPA on a 4.00 scale after the sixth or seventh semester, combined with a minimum ACT composite score of 24.  This scholarship is not available to recipients of the Board of Governors Scholarship or the Chancellor's Scholarship.

Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.30 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.) See"Transfer Scholarships to Missouri State University-Springfield."


Dixie Huff Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student who graduated from West Plains High School or Couch High School. Applicants receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Awards will be made with regard to financial need. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship.

Don and Judy Kenslow Endowed Scholarship

Student must be full-time majoring in business, economics or elementary education and must show good citizenship by past participation in academics and extra-curricular activities. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Returning students must have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5. Priority consideration will be given to applicants from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright). Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Donald E. and Carol D. (Roe) Reser & Family Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident of Howell County and a graduate of West Plains High School. Award made to a sophomore pursuing a degree in elementary education. Recipient must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Priority consideration is: 1) financial need; 2) academic performance; 3) leadership qualities. Must be full-time. Exceptions may be made when the scholarship committee feels a part-time student is more deserving.

Doug Darr Community Leadership Restricted Current Scholarship

Recipient should be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). They must also be enrolled full-time and should demonstrate community involvement and cite successful leadership experiences. Preference will be given to a student majoring in one of the following disciplines: political science, education (elementary or secondary), business or communications.

Recipients may be considered for renewal, but must reapply for consideration with all other candidates.


Dr. Bruce Mitchell Smith Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be from the seven-county service area (Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas or Shannon County). First consideration will be given to a student majoring in a field of science; secondary consideration will be given to a student majoring in the field of mathematics. Award will be made to a student who does not qualify for other types of financial aid. Recipient must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and be enrolled full-time.

The scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Earl S. and Ruth N. Webb Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be pursuing a degree in the Missouri State University-West Plains accounting program and be a resident of Howell or a contiguous county. Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of college course work with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

This sholarship may be renewed automatically as long as the recipient reapplies.


Ed and Lorene Thompson Brooks Corps of Opportunity (CO) Awards

Corps of Opportunity (CO) students must be of excellent character, demonstrate a strong work ethic and show scholastic potential. Residence at the campus in the Grizzly House and/or Grizzly Lofts, though not absolutely required, is preferred. Recipients will be strongly encouraged to begin their CO jobs during the first summer session. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 is required. Entering freshmen must have achieved this minimum GPA in their senior year of high school. Home-schooled students must have either earned their GED/HiSET diploma or have an ACT composite score of at least 18. Currently enrolled college students must have achieved the minimum 2.50 GPA in all college courses. Any first-time student who has earned a GED/HiSET diploma is eligible. First-year students will be given preference over sophomores who are not already a CO recipient. CO students will undergo a standard evaluation by the departmental work supervisor. Less than satisfactory performance may result in probation or dismissal.


Emory Melton Endowed Scholarship

When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled with 30 credit hours or more earned, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.  Preference to a student majoring in history. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

The scholarship may be renewed automatically so long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.


Eual 'Bud' James Academic Restricted Current Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon or Wright County) with preference being given to a graduate of an Oregon County high school. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Academics will be the primary consideration for this scholarship. Two letters of recommendation which speak to the student's involvement in community activities is required. Full-time student preferred. 

The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Everett and Opal Parrott Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled full-time and be a resident of Douglas, Howell, Ozark, Oregon, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. Financial need will be considered.

The scholarship may be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher.


Frances Reiter Memorial Nursing Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains, who is a first year second semester nursing student.  The recipient should have a 3.0 or higher GPA to receive the scholarship.  Preference to a student with University and/or community involvement or working. And is a First generation and/or single parent and/or non-traditional student. First consideration will be based on financial need. Submit a short essay about Frances Reiter's contribution to the nursing profession.

Automatically renew for one year as long as the student reapplies and the previous requirements are met with the exception of being a first year student.


Frankie and S.D. Sims Memorial Scholarship

Must be enrolled full-time in Missouri State Univ.-West Plains Nursing Program seeking an A.S. Nursing Degree. Must have had a 3.0 GPA or higher in their LPN education. Preference will be given to graduates of the South Central Area Vocational LPN School. Preference will also be given to those who can demonstrate involvement in community service documented with two letters of reference. Do not consider financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Gammill Family Foundation Scholarship for Nursing School

Recipient must be enrolled in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Award is based on financial need and academic credentials of the applicants. Preference to applicants who require some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Applicant must be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright Counties) and must submit two letters of reference from an educator or a member of the community. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA during the payment of the scholarship.

Glenwood Mustang Milestone Endowed Scholarship

Recipients must be a graduate of West Plains High School or Koshkonong High School and present letters of reference from two Glenwood School faculty members. When awarded to an incoming freshman, applicant must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. When awarded to a second-year college student, the recipient must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in high school and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in the preceding college credits. Consideration will be given to community involvement and demonstrated performance in extra-curricular and community activities. The recipient must be enrolled full-time. The application must be accompanied by an essay in response to the following: "What are your career and educational goals and how would this scholarship benefit you?"

The recipient may be considered for renewal, but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Glyn Spears Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Primary consideration will be financial need with preference given to a student who requires financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Students receiving the Missouri A+ grant are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County.

Grace Putnam Good Citizen Nursing Scholarship

Recipient must be a graduate of the South Central Area Vocational LPN School who is currently seeking an Associate of Science in Nursing degree at Missouri State University-West Plains. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have exhibited civic involvement and/or participated in events for individuals with special needs. Applicants from the Howell County area will be given first consideration, then applicants from Oregon, Shannon, Texas, Ozark, Wright or Douglas County. Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in their college program and be enrolled full-time. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Graham and Connie O'Neal Endowed Scholarship

Recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains whose area of emphasis or interest is English. The recipient must be enrolled full-time each semester. Consideration will be given to high school performance and college potential. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 hours or more, the student must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Granvil and Idell Vaughan Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is a Howell County resident. Recipient must have completed 15 credit hours of college course work prior to receiving this scholarship and must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student who plans to pursue a degree in agriculture or education. Recipient may be enrolled full or part time. Financial need may be considered if more than one applicant meets all of the eligibility requirements.

This scholaship in not renewable.


Harlin Family Business Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in the field of business who is a graduate of an Ozark County high school. If awarded to an incoming freshman, recipient must be in the upper third of his or her high school graduating class. If awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in their field of study.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


High School Equivalency/GED Board of Governors Scholarship

1. Entering freshmen must have a minimum GED score of 2860 or HiSET score of 72.  2. Returning freshmen with less than 30 hours completed must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA and a minimum GED score of 2860 or HiSET score of 72. Applicant with highest GED/HiSET score will receive the award. Recipient may receive only one Board of Governors Scholarship. 

Renewal: Complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 3.40 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains grade point average. (Transfer hours will not be considered.)

Honorable William Hass Endowed Scholarship

The recipient must be pursuing a degree in the discipline of law enforcement or criminal justice. Priority will be given to applicants in the following order: resident of Thayer, MO; resident of Oregon County; or a resident from the 37th Judicial Circuit of Missouri. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a returning student, student must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Recipient must be enrolled full-time each semester. Exceptions may be made when committee feels a part-time student is more deserving. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

J. E. 'Good' and Virginia 'Beanie' Hard Nursing Scholarship

Recipient must be a graduate of the South Central Area Vocational LPN School who is currently seeking an Associate of Science in Nursing degree at Missouri State University-West Plains. Recipient must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in his or her college program and be enrolled full-time. Awards are made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Jack and Marian McNevin Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is majoring in the teaching profession either at the elementary or secondary level; recipient must be enrolled in at least one course on the West Plains campus. Applicants must be a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County and must have a 3.0 GPA or higher in all previous educational programs. Award will be made with regard to financial need. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


James and Audrey Friend Restricted Scholarship

Recipient must be a graduate of Licking High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Recipient must be enrolled in at least three hours each semester. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Jess and Betty Garnett Family Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must have completed at least 15 credit hours with a GPA of 3.0 or higher while seeking a degree in the field of business. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Jim and Cindy McFarland Endowed Scholarship

First consideration for award will be given to a resident of Howell County and then to a resident of the remaining six counties in the University’s service area (Douglas, Ozark, Oregon, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Recipient must be a non-traditional student who is enrolled in at least six hours each semester. Awarded first to an applicant with a declared degree in special education. If no applicant meets that requirement, awarded to a major in the field of elementary education. First consideration will be based on financial need. Secondary consideration will be given to involvement in community activities and demonstration of good citizenship.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants and have a GPA of 3.00.


Jim and Nell Peters Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student pursuing a major in English or history. First preference will be given to a graduate of West Plains High School, then from applicants who graduated from a Howell County high school. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.5. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

John Craig Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Priority will first be given to applicants whose area of emphasis is special education, with secondary consideration to applicants with an interest in math. The applicant must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant.

Judge Harold and Martha M. Henry Endowed Scholarship

Recipient may be either a part-time or a full-time student. Primary consideration will be given to a recipient based on financial need. Preference will be given to a resident of the area served by Missouri State University-West Plains (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County).

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Judith Shepard Newman Endowed Scholarship

The recipient(s) of this award will be enrolled full-time. Recipient must have a total of 30 college hours with a GPA of at least 2.0. Priority will first be given to applicants from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Awarded to a student who is goal driven and strives to make a difference. Demonstrated financial need is preferred.

Kent and Barbara Thomas Student Ambassador Book Scholarship

Recipient will be selected from the list of Student Ambassadors chosen for the current academic year.  Entering freshmen must have an ACT composite score of 20 or above, and current students must have a cumulative 2.50 GPA. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at Missouri State University-West Plains. The scholarship shall cover the full rental cost of books for each semester the student is chosen as a Student Ambassador.

This scholarship is renewable if the student reapplies and is chosen as a Student Ambassador.

Lela and Lowell Fleenor Restricted Current Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. First preference will be for a student majoring in music. Second preference wiII be for a student majoring in elementary or secondary education. First preference will be given to a former graduate of the West Plains High School; second consideration to be given to a Houston High School graduate. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. First Preference will be given to a student who is enrolled full-time. Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship

The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient” and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Primary consideration will be given to non-traditional applicants; however, a traditional student may receive the award if he or she has demonstrated a commitment to learning/education that exceeds that of the non-traditional applicants. Recipient must be a resident of Wright, Shannon, Howell, Oregon, Douglas, Texas or Ozark County. First consideration will be given to a resident of Howell County. Applicant must have graduated from a public high school or obtained a GED. Recipients may be enrolled full-time or part-time.

The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient" and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Lida Risner Bozman and Louis Bozman Endowed Scholarship

Recipients should be selected from the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class and represent good character with qualities of leadership. One recipient must be a graduate from West Plains High School and one recipient from Thayer High School with proceeds to be divided equally. They must be enrolled full-time. Financial need will be considered.

Lillian Meade Darr Endowed Leadership Scholarship

Awarded to a student from one of the following: Eminence High School, another high school in Shannon County, or another school district within the seven county service area. 

Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.
 


Linda Wood Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a full-time, degree-seeking student who lives within a 40-mile radius of West Plains. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in any chosen field of study. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Lorin L. Vaughn Probation & Parole Citizens Advisory Board Scholarship

Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Primary consideration should be financial need. The recipient must be enrolled full-time. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities.

This scholarship may be automatically renewed for one additional year, as long as the student maintains a 2.5 GPA.


M. O. Looney Community Service Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains with preference given to a student from Ozark County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. A returning student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5 and have demonstrated community involvement in high school and/or during college. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Margaret W. Shaw Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled full-time in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. First preference shall be given to a student from Oregon County. Second preference shall be given to a student from a surrounding county (Ripley, Carter, Howell or Shannon). Provided that no student meets either preference, it may be awarded to a student from any county in Missouri. Applicant must have demonstrated financial need.

Marianna Hoover Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be full-time, degree-seeking and live in the seven-county area served by Missouri State University-West Plains (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). For incoming freshmen, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. For returning students, a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in any field of study is required. Awards will be made with regard to financial need.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for renewal of the scholarship, but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Marvin Wheeler and Lorene Wheeler Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident of West Plains, who is interested in pursuing a degree in a math or science field. The recipient must submit two written recommendations. Consideration will be given to financial need and high school GPA (preferably 3.0 or higher). 

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Mary H. Sheid Student Ambassador Book Scholarship

Recipient will be selected from the list of Student Ambassadors chosen for the current academic year.  Entering freshmen must have an ACT composite score of 20 or above, and current students must have a cumulative 2.50 GPA. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at Missouri State University-West Plains. The scholarship shall cover the full rental cost of books for each semester the student is chosen as a Student Ambassador.

Mary Lou and Don Sallee Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a student(s) enrolled at Missouri State University-Mountain Grove. When awarded to a freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or be in the upper third of their high school graduating class. Preference will be given to applicants from Wright, Douglas or Ozark County, respectively. Recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours each semester, with a minimum of six hours at the Mountain Grove campus. Awards will be made with regard to financial need if GPA is the same.

This scholarship may be renewed for a second year, however the student must reapply for consideration with all other applicants and submit two letters of recommendation from the faculty on the Mountain Grove Campus.


Math Educators of South Central Missouri Restricted Scholarship

Selection of recipient will be based on the following: GPA, application and letter(s) of reference. First preference will be given to a mathematics major, second preference to a mathematics minor and third preference to an education major. Students must have completed at least 45 college credit hours (at least 30 at Missouri State University-West Plains), have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and be a graduate of a south-central Missouri high school. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six hours during the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Maxine Brown Restricted Scholarship

Awarded to a student properly enrolled full-time at Missouri State University-West Plains. Applicant should be a graduate of a Texas County high school. If there are no qualified applicants, then the recipient should be from an adjoining county. Recipient must be a single parent pursuing higher education. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities; and the student should have graduated from high school with at least a 2.5 GPA or equivalent. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


May Wheeler Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a resident of Oregon County, accepted into the Missouri State University-West Plains nursing program. They must be a full-time student. Other selection factors include financial need, high school academic performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Mike and Mary Jane Lybyer Endowed Scholarship

Consideration will be given to high school performance (3.0 GPA or upper one-third of graduating class minimum), college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Preference given to applicants from the seven counties served by Missouri State University-West Plains (Howell, Wright, Texas, Douglas, Ozark, Oregon and Shannon). Preferred vocational area of recipients is nursing. Award is made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.


Mildred M. Schobert Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a non-traditional student who demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a student who shows need but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

This scholarship may be renewed, but recipients must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Mountain Grove 2006 Missouri State Alumni Endowed Scholarship

First preference to a graduate of Mountain Grove High School. Applicant must be enrolled in a Missouri State University-West Plains program who is attending one or more classes in the Shannon Hall facility in Mountain Grove. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher in all previous educational programs and be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester. Award will be made without regard to financial need. Two letters of recommendations from individuals who can reference the applicant’s involvement in community service are also required.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Mountain Grove Missouri State University Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled in classes at the Shannon Hall facility in Mountain Grove. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Consideration will be given to academic potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and applicant should have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher in all previous educational programs. Two letters of recommendation will be required from individuals who can reference the applicant's involvement in community service. The student must be enrolled full-time.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


MSU-WP Promise Out of Area Scholarship

Students are selected for this scholarship based on a combination of financial need and academic potential as demonstrated by a combination of class rank, GPA, and ACT/SAT scores.

Renewal: Renewed for one year for student who complete 24 credit hours at Missouri State University-West Plains during the first year with a cumulative Missouri State GPA of 2.75 or higher and continue to demonstrate financial need. 


MSU-WP Promise Scholarship

Students are selected for this scholarship based on a combination of financial need and academic potential as demonstrated by a combination of class rank, GPA, and ACT/SAT scores.

Renewal: Renewed for one year for student who complete 24 credit hours at Missouri State University-West Plains during the first year with a cumulative Missouri State GPA of 2.75 or higher and continue to demonstrate financial need. 


Multicultural Leadership Scholarship

Entering and current students must rank either in the upper one-half of their class or have a 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 and have demonstrated leadership in multicultural school or community activities or organizations.  This scholarship is not available to recipients of the Board of Governors Scholarship.

Renewal: Students who complete 30 Missouri State-West Plains credit hours during the academic year with a 2.75 cumulative Missouri State-West Plains GPA. (Transfer hours will not be considered). Must reapply to be considered for renewal.


Mynde Tarter Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Applicant must be a graduate of the most recent West Plains High School graduating class who was an athlete, had a record of good attendance, and had a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Consideration will be given to an individual who is goal oriented and serves as a role model or mentor for younger students. Applicant must have good moral values and work ethic as demonstrated by one letter of reference. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but recipients must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Nancy White Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Preference will be given to a student with an interest in writing, communications, etc. Applicants receiving the Missouri A+ Grant or Pell are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

This scholarship will be automatically renewed as long as the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.


Naomi McKee Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be s full-time student majoring in elementary education and be a graduate of a high school in Ozark or Howell County. Consideration will be given to a student who has demonstrated involvement in the community. Applicant should have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Award will be made with regard to financial need, and preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Scholarship may be used for book purchases.

This scholarship may be renewed for one additional year, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Norman and Peggy Rieger Family Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA while receiving the scholarship. Preference will be given to a graduate of West Plains High School or Dora High School. First consideration will be based on financial need.

Norman Rieger Dora Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Preference will be given to students enrolled part-time. If there are no part-time students eligible at the time of selection, a full-time student maybe selected. The recipient must be an attendee or graduate of Dora High School. First consideration will be based on financial need.

Onita Trett Endowed Scholarship

Awarded annually to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Preference will first be given to a resident of Ozark County or then to a resident of Howell, Oregon or Fulton County, Arkansas respectively. The student must have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.5 and must have completed 20 hours of college course work. Priority will be given to a recipient who is majoring in English or Communications. The recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. Awards will be made with regard for financial need. The applicant must provide two academic letters of reference.

Pahlmann Family Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student enrolled at Missouri State University - West Plains. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher in all previous educational programs and must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA while receiving this scholarship. First preference will be given to an applicant who is a graduate of an Ozark County high school; if there are no qualified applicants from Ozark County, consideration will then be given to an applicant who is a graduate of a high school in Howell County. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Peggy Rieger Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be a full-time student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA while receiving the scholarship. Only will be given to a graduate of West Plains High School or Dora High School. First consideration will be based on financial need.

Scholarship recipients may be considered for a one-time renewal, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Ralph F. and Louella Cox Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to student enrolled full-time in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Applicant must be a resident of Howell or Oregon County and must have graduated from a public high school. Recipient must have a 3.0 or higher GPA in all previous educational programs. Award will be made with regard to financial need with preference being given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Application must include the names of two references who know the student well.

Rita Fugate Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this award will be a full-time student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains whose area of emphasis or interest is in mathematics education or pre-engineering, with preference to a student interested in teaching mathematics at the secondary level or in pre-engineering. The recipient must be a graduate of a high school within the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Selection also will be based on integrity and leadership qualities of the applicant as demonstrated in two letters of reference.

Recipient may be considered for a one-time renewal of this scholarship, but they must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Rita J. Turpin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a single parent, non-traditional, part-time or full-time student. Recipient should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Financial need will be considered in awarding this scholarship.

The recipient must be enrolled full-time. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Robert T. Drago Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student who is pursuing a degree in science, excluding nursing. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Recipient must have a 3.5 or higher GPA or be in the upper third of his/her high school graduating class. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Roger D. Shaw Endowed Scholarship

Recipient should be a forestry major, enrolled full-time, from Oregon County. If there are no qualified applicants with a forestry major, then consideration shall be given to majors in agriculture who are residents of Oregon County. In the event there is no qualified applicant in either of these disciplines, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student who is a resident of Oregon County but majoring in another discipline. Applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need. They must also submit at least two written recommendations from previous instructors.

Roy and Vallie Mayfield Memorial Scholarship

Available to a full-time student with financial need. For entering freshmen, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Students with 30 college credit hours or more must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Samantha Beach Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is a recent graduate of West Plains High School. A minimum 3.0 GPA in all previous educational programs is required. The recipient must be enrolled full-time each semester.  Award will be made without regard to financial need. Preference will be given to a former member of the West Plains High School Cheerleading Squad.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Scholarship for Future Welders

The recipient of this award will be a second-year undergraduate student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains Campus in the Advanced Fabrication Technology (Welding) program and/or pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Technology degree (Welding). Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need and at least a 2.75 GPA in the program. 

The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year. The scholarship may not be renewed.


Senator Doyle Childers Endowed Scholarship

Selection will be made from applicants who are enrolled full-time in a science program and who are residents of one of the following counties: Barry, Christian, Douglas, Howell, Ozark, Stone or Taney. Award will be made to an incoming freshman. Consideration will first be given to financial need, high school performance and college potential as indicated by aptitude tests.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Shirley Calhoun Lawler Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Must be enrolled a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. First preference will be given to a first generation student with an interest in teacher education. Second preference will be to a first generation student with an interest in agriculture and both to be within the 7-county service area.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


South Central Ozark Home Health Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled in the Missouri State University-West Plains nursing program and be from Texas, Oregon or Howell County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to financial need, high school performance and college potential as indicated by aptitude tests. Award will be made with regard to financial need and may be used for course fees, books and supplies. Must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. 

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


St. Francis Farm Endowed Book Scholarship

Recipient must be a part-time student (nine hours or less) and should not be enrolled in the following disciplines: nursing, technology, physical education or be a member of an intercollegiate athletic team. Consideration will be given to a non-traditional student with minor dependent children. Award will be made with regard to financial need.


Student Government Association Executive Officer Scholarship Mountain Grove

President and Vice President must be elected, meet the officer requirements listed in the SGA constitution, and be enrolled in at least six or more credit hours (part-time). 


Student Government Association Executive Officer Scholarship West Plains

President and Vice President must be elected, meet the officer requirements listed in the SGA constitution, and be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours (full-time).  Presidential Cabinet Members must meet the officer requirements listed in the SGA constitution and be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours (full-time).


Susan Sims-Giddens and Edwin Giddens Scholarship

The recipient(s) of this award will be a student(s) properly enrolled full time in the Nursing Program at Missouri State University-West Plains. The recipient(s) must have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average or higher during his/her school career and have
demonstrated involvement in community service documented with two letters of reference. Student recipient(s) must maintain a 3.0 overall GPA while receiving this scholarship. Financial need shall not be a consideration when making this scholarship award.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


Tarter-Thompson Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains and a former member of the West Plains High School Chapter of FFA as evidenced by a letter of recommendation from the FFA advisor. The recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference to a student who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant or who is not receiving the Missouri A+ Grant.

This scholarship may not be renewed.


Ted and Jeanette Gilliam Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a graduate of Willow Springs High School who is majoring in agriculture (preferred) or education. Preference will be given to a resident of Peace Valley, Mo., and a non-traditional student. Applicant should have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher during his or her high school career and maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship. Awards will be made without regard for financial need. The selection also will be based on integrity and leadership qualities as demonstrated in two letters of reference. The recipient must be enrolled full-time.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the recipient must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


The McIntosh Trades Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be an undergraduate student receiving a degree in the trades industry. It is the donor’s preference that the student: 1. Have financial need, 2. Be a first-generation higher education attendee, 3. Have a GPA of less than 3.0. 

The student can continue to hold the scholarship so long as they continue to meet the main criteria and the first preference. The student may hold the scholarship for up to 4 academic years.


Urban Missouri Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains who is a graduate of a St. Louis or Kansas City High School. Recipient must be at least a second semester freshman with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. The recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester. Consideration will be given to financial need. Applicants are required to submit to the financial aid office a typed autobiographical essay of 500 to 750 words that details the applicant's financial need and reasons for seeking a university degree.

This scholarship is not renewable.


Virginia Henderson Nursing Endowed Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains, who is a first year, second semester nursing student.  The recipient should have a 2.0 or higher GPA to receive the scholarship.  Preference to a student with University and/or community involvement or is working. First consideration will be based on financial need. Applicants are required to submit a short essay about Virginia Henderson's therory of nursing care.

The scholarship will be automatically renewed for one year as long as all previous requirements are met.


Vivian H. Drago Endowed Leadership Scholarship

Awarded to one of the most recent graduates of a high school within the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). 

Renewal: Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.


Walt Wegner Scholarship for Religious Studies

First priority will be given to students on the West Plains campus who are pursuing a major or minor in religious studies. Second priority will be given to students who graduated from a high school in the seven-county service area (Howell, Wright, Texas, Ozark, Douglas, Oregon and Shannon Counties). Recipient must have completed at least 30 college credit hours, including three hours of religious studies course work, with a GPA of at least 3.5. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

This scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply for consideration with all other applicants.


West Plains Bank & Trust Endowed Scholarship

First preference is to a resident of Howell County. Second preference is to a resident of the remaining six counties of the service area (Douglas, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). If awarded to a student enrolled at the junior or senior level, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.0. Priority will be given to a student majoring in the field of business who is enrolled in a Springfield program on the West Plains campus; however, if there is no qualified candidate, the award can be made to a student majoring in any academic area offered by Missouri State University-Springfield on the West Plains campus. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

West Plains Campus Letters and Communications Scholarship

When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to students with a B average and ACT score of 22 or above, majoring in English or Communications, and with leadership qualities as shown through extra-curricular activities. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 hours or more, student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of at least 3.5 in English or Communications. Financial Need is preferred.

William and Virginia Darr Endowed Leadership Scholarship

Awarded to one of the most recent graduates from one of the high schools in the seven-county service area. 

Renewal: Recipients may be renewed as long as they meet renewal criteria and are considered with all other applicants. Students who complete 30 Missouri State University-West Plains credit hours with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Transfer hours will not be considered. Applicants must have achieved minimum 3.25 GPA and apply by the deadline.


Zizzer Scholarship

The recipient of this award shall be a full-time student demonstrating satisfactory academic progress. The recipient must have a demonstrated interest and commitment to promoting a society that is just, equitable, and inclusive of all individuals irrespective of race, age, sex, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Serious consideration will be given to all ways in which potential recipients might contribute to a diverse educational environment.

This scholarship is renewable for a second year as long as the recipient reapplies and continues to meet the requirements.


Zizzers Class of 1964 Nursing Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program at Missouri State University-West Plains who is a graduate of West Plains High School.  Recipient must be at the sophomore level with preference to a student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.  Award will be made without regard to financial need.
